Is this an official OpenAI product?
No. Avatar for AI is an independent extension and is not affiliated with OpenAI. It works on top of ChatGPT Voice on chatgpt.com.
Does it work with the free ChatGPT plan?
Yes. You only need a ChatGPT account that can use voice conversations on chatgpt.com.
Which browsers are supported?
It is built for Google Chrome on desktop. Other Chromium-based browsers that install extensions from the Chrome Web Store usually work too. It does not work in the ChatGPT mobile apps.
What happens to my conversations and voice?
Nothing leaves your browser because of the extension. It only measures how loud the voices are, locally, to animate the avatar. Your conversation stays between you and OpenAI.
Is the avatar a real person?
No. The avatars are AI-generated video characters, not real people or a live camera feed.
How much will Pro cost?
Pricing will be announced at launch. The current avatars stay free.
